From the 3rd until the 5th of February, the World Money Fair took place in Berlin. The Royal Dutch Mint attended the fair, like many other Mints from all over the world. The World Money Fair Set 2023, especially made for visitors of the fair, was completely sold out.
For the first time in two years, the Royal Dutch Mint attended the fair. The last two editions of the World Money Fair where canceled due to the corona pandemic. A lot of coins where available at the stand, such as the new Willemstad 5 Euro Coin, the Scheepjesschelling 2023, the Annual Set and more.
World Money Fair Set 2023
The World Money Fair Set 2023 was all about Johannes Vermeer. He is, without a doubt, one of the most famous Dutch Masters: Johannes Vermeer (1632 – 1675). 2023 is the Year of Johannes Vermeer and the fair set is also the 3rd issue in the series ‘Dutch Masters’ from the Royal Dutch Mint.
Vermeer is mostly known as the master of light: he was able to create sublime incidence of light in his paintings. The painter mainly cerated intimate genre paintings with scenes from everyday life. Vermeer makes us look closely at scenes that do not stand out at first sight… Vermeers masterful technique can be seen in world-famous paintings, such as The Milkmaid and the Girl with a Pearl Earring.
