Houten, 9 December 2020

The Royal Dutch Mint is proud to announce that, as of last week, they have achieved their goal of becoming 100% energy neutral by installing a solar park on the roof of their brand new building.

After the move to a new, ultramodern building in April this year, the Royal Dutch Mint started the installation of the solar park on the roof. The construction took 3 months, in which more than 8.000 m2 of the roof has been covered with 1.700 solar panels. The solar park has a capacity of approximately 800 kW. The solar park can generate over 700.000 kWh per year, significantly more than the Royal Dutch Mint’s energy consumption.

CEO Vincent Van Hecke: “Sustainability is one of the core values of the Royal Dutch Mint. We are proud to be the first coin producer that is entirely self-sufficient in terms of energy. Our customers are increasingly aware of their ecological footprint and we intend to meet their sustainability expectations now and in the future.”
